Rakugo
On January 27, 2012, I enjoyed rakugo at Kahului Hongwan-ji. Rakugo master Shofukutei Ukou visited Oahu and Maui to appreciate Aloha Initiative, and I could see one of his performances. Rakugo is Japanese traditional comedy performance. One person plays many different roles by his talking, limited movement (he doesn't stand up) and sound effect.
The picture is when he demonstrated how they use drums. For example, 30 minutes before performance, they sound drums like "Empty empty empty (the theater is still empty)" then "Come in, come in, come in". 5 minutes before performance, drums sound like "a lot of blessings may come in"....... They put a lot of meanings into all details. I used to enjoy rakugo performance in Japan and always loved it, but didn't know about drums. It was fun to learn.
Probably people have been getting connected around the disaster on March 11th, 2011. Some support, some are helped, some appreciate. The pain from 311 is still fresh, but good things are growing from the pain. I hope the good things keep growing and last long. It has just begun. Mahalo Ukou-san!
