Soma area: July 23, 2011

soma-title.jpg

About the same time that I heard Mrs. Abe’s experience on Maui, there was a lady who took pictures in Soma area where Mrs. Abe was from. The date is same July 23rd, however Japan Time is ahead of Hawaii Time. Her name is Marie. I’ve met her on Aloha Initiative’s page on Facebook. Her daughter was also home staying on Maui through Aloha Initiative.

She allowed me to introduce some of pictures from album. Thank you, Marie.

Marie’s word. "Tsunami hits this place..we visit here to find out how and where the tsunami goes..Very poor place..,almost nothing...For about 4 months...And this is how it looks, now!!!"

Since there are few things there, it’s hard to grasp size of each things. However I would imagine that square thing in the right picture is huge. It makes me realize how powerful the tsunami was..... scary.

At the moment I saw this picture, I relieved by thinking "Good, ground is prepared". But next moment I read the sign "Temporary storage for rubbles"..... Well, I know we have to do first thing first. This one tells me a lot about rubble without showing rubble.

A house is still floating in the water. Sorry to repeat but this is four months after the tsunami.

Each picture tells me how scary the tsunami was, and for me, this one talks especially about power and speed of the tsunami.
